Kathryn (Kathy) Brown is a tax attorney with a focus on transactional and organizational issues affecting tax exempt organizations and entities taxed pursuant to Subchapters C, K, and S of the Internal Revenue Code.Before joining the firm, Kathy was a Tax Litigation Attorney for the South Carolina Department of Revenue handling state tax and alcohol regulatory matters. She appeared regularly in the Administrative Law Court, the Circuit Court, the Probate Court and the Masters-in-Equity Court. She has argued and won cases before the South Carolina Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Kathy also served as a law clerk in the federal court for Senior U.S. District Judge G. Ross Anderson, Jr. Prior to the practice of law, Kathy worked for two Fortune 500 companies; first in pharmaceutical manufacturing and later in building materials manufacturing. Her expertise concentrated on the cross border transfer of raw materials and finished product to both internal and external clients. She additionally worked in the areas of development, implementation and training of the corporation’s processes/procedures for cross-border transfers in the implementation of the new company-wide Enterprise Resource Planning system.After receiving her Bachelors degree from Wake Forest University, Kathy earned a J.D. from the Charleston School of Law, an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida, and a Masters in International Business Studies from the University of South Carolina, during which time she studied at the Universidad de San Jose in San Jose, Costa Rica and worked at a Fortune 500 technology corporation in Caracas, Venezuela.
